I have my setup like that:
Motherboard line-out: 10W 2.1 audiosystem
Front audio panel: In-ear monitors with female to 2 male splitter (mic/stereo are separate on my front panel)
So when I select audio output in KDE settings to front panel it works as expected, but when I switch to line out I get no audio at all. Here I saw that I can use alsamixer and turn off auto mute. It worked -- now I get audio the the 2.1 system and don't get it on the headphones. But when I switch to the headphones same audio is played from the 2.1 system as well for some reason , but with negative gain. It is an unacceptable volume still.
So I have a hypothesis that this is why the mute option exists in sound cards -- but when it is active pulseaudio can't unmute the line out.
I am not sure if this has an solution, I don't want to pull out the splitter out of the front panel thousand times a day either (I still need the mic so I just remove the stereo cable leaving mic cable in the front panel).
My motherboard is GIGABYTE Aorus ELITE B850M WIFI6E ICE.
